So, you may ask... Why an octopus and a jackalope? Well, I've heard all my artist life I should find a niche, but I can't decide. Paint is fun, clay is fun, yarn is fun, beads are too. And I am pretty sure I'll keep on finding other media quite fun. So I'm going against common advice and growing tentacles and playing with everything I find fun, and that includes the fantastical critters of my imagination.
And here's my story...
As a child I lived in Mexico City, a colorful place with a culture that is vivid, loud and spicy; from the traditions and fabrics, to the food and music. I grew up marveling at the works of the contemporary muralists Rivera, Siqueiros, and Orozco. So I learned that art, in its many forms, is a language.
In 1998, I was able to fulfill my long-time dream of becoming a muralist. For over a decade I painted walls, ceilings, furniture...you name it. Now, I've downscaled; but I still love taking every opportunity to find a creative outlet. To me, it's the best way to express my thoughts and emotions.
I am sharing everything I've got with you!
